Why We Built Our Own Lab Software
Over the past several years, we've developed and refined our own laboratory management software while operating a commercial tissue culture lab. This article explores the challenges that led us to build it, including traceability, location tracking, customer communication, invoicing, analytics, and reducing manual work. What began as an internal tool has evolved into a platform that we are preparing to offer to other laboratories looking to improve efficiency, reduce mistakes, and spend more time focused on their plants.
Why Modern Orchid Labs Are Becoming More Selective
Modern orchid breeding is facing a quiet but significant structural shift driven by genetics, economics, and long-term propagation practices. As tissue culture labs encounter increasing variability in seed viability, fertility, and genetic stability, many are re-evaluating the types of material they can process sustainably. At Standard Orchid, these patterns have led to a more selective approach focused on breeding strategy, genetic diversity, and long-term vigor rather than volume alone.
